The following are news items that have a connection with charge stripes in copper-oxide superconductors.  Some of the links are to journal archives that require a subscription to gain access.

Science Daily covers Peter Abbamonte's observation of charge order in Sr(14)Cu(24)O(41) by resonant soft-x-ray diffraction [Nature (Oct. 28, 2004)].

Superstructures add to superconducting mystery  October 2004
Brief story on two x-ray scattering studies [PRL 93, 157007 and 157008 (2004)] of structural modulations in YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6+x) that  are pretty clearly associated with ordering and vacancies of Cu-O chains.  While a possible  connection with charge stripes had previously been proposed, the doping dependence of the modulation period is quite different, and the local displacements are quite large.

News article by Adrian Cho [Science 297, 499 (2002)] covering the controversy over the interpretation of low-temperature density-of-states spatial modulations observed by scanning tunneling spectroscopy, particularly the differing perspectives from the groups of Seamus Davis and Aharon Kapitulnik.  Also mentions the nonobservation of stripe diffraction using soft-x-ray resonant diffraction on a thin film of La(2)CuO(4+d) by Peter Abbamonte and coworkers.

A star role for stripes  June 2002
A short Physics in Action article by Tranquada discussing the significance of a study by Hoffman et al. [Science 295, 466 (2002)] in which they detected (by scanning tunneling spectroscopy) spatial modulations of the local density-of-states (with a period of 4a) associated with magnetic vortex cores in Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+d).

Superconductor stripes move on  November 1999
A short Physics in Action article by Tranquada discussing the possibility of dynamic stripes in connection with a paper by Mook et al. [Nature 401, 145 (1999)] that reported anomalous phonon linewidths at about the charge-ordering wave vector for a bond-bending phonon in YBa(2)Cu(3)O(6+x).
